A Summary of the Possible Characteristics of Fetal Valproate Syndrome

This note is for those of you who are curious about this syndrome and are still unsure as to what exactly it might look like.  
I thought I would outline some of the possible characteristics that could be present in someone with Fetal Valproate Syndrome (according to the readings that I have been able to find online - which is NOT much!)
  • Craniofacial abnormalities
  • Broad nose
  • Flat nose bridge
  • Short nose
  • Epicanthal folds
  • Downturned mouth
  • Spina bifida
  • Eyebrow abnormalities
  • Anteverted nostrils
  • Shallow upper lip groove
  • Thin upper lip
  • Thick lower lip
  • Developmental delay
  • Neurological problems
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Finger abnormalities
  • Other musculoskeletal defects
  • Autistic manifestation
